Glendale, AZ (April 09, 2018) – For generations, the plumbing and HVAC industry has been dominated by men. Statistics show that only 1.5% of plumbers in the U.S. are women. That’s crazy- and Audrey Monell, President of Forrest Anderson Plumbing and Air Conditioning Inc. (Forrest Anderson), wants women to know that they too can have a rewarding and profitable career in this industry.
As one of the few female led plumbing and HVAC companies in the Valley, let alone the nation, Monell wanted to create a Women in Industry workshop to explain new career opportunities and teach basic plumbing skills to young women interested in entering this traditionally male dominated field. Several industry related vendors and partners loved the idea and offered the help and co-host an event.
The Women in Industry workshop led by Forrest Anderson will be held from 10am – 2pm on April 28 at the Farnsworth Wholesale Company at 3830 E. Wier Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85040. The presentation and activities are targeted towards women 16-24 years old and includes a free lunch and raffle prize. Attendees are required to pre-register through the Forrest Anderson website at https://forrestanderson.net/women.
“We need to break the stereotype of it being a job only for men and help more women realize that a career in trades such as plumbing and air conditioning is a fantastic option that not only pays very well but provides numerous career path opportunities to them,” says Audrey Monell, President of Forrest Anderson Plumbing and AC. “The plumbing industry is in the top-10 for growth and there is a huge demand for workers, yet women only make up 1.5% of plumbers in the U.S.A. Hopefully this women focused workshop will help open a few minds, as well as career doors for young women here in Arizona.”
In addition to Monell, top female trainers from numerous companies who will offer valuable insight on the demand for skilled workers in this high-paying industry, how to get training and what to expect on the job. It will also include hands-on activity stations to teach basic skills such as: toilet repair, sink and faucet replacement, and setting and installing a thermostat.
